Gary Adgate - tuba

Although Gary claims to be a ”naturalized” Texan, he was born in Lake Forest, Illinois. After growing up in the Washington D.C. area Gary moved to Denton, Texas in 1973 to attend the University of North Texas and in 1979 earned a Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education Instrumental All-Level. A Masters of Music in Tuba Performance from Northwestern University followed in 1981. Returning to Texas in 1982 Gary has taught and performed tuba and electric bass in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area for the past 30 years. 1986 through 1994 found Gary managing Dallas’ largest classical record store for Sound Warehouse and then Blockbuster Music. Gary Adgate was Director of Music Ministries for Grace Lutheran from 1992 through 2013. Gary directed the adult and youth choirs, all instrumental ensembles as well coordinating all music for worship services. In 2010 he started the Way of Grace praise band that led the music for worship service at Grace Lutheran. In 2012 Gary founded a new community outreach ministry at Grace called Amazing Grace Coffee House. From 1998 through 2008 Gary was also the Director of Youth Ministries for Grace Lutheran. From 1995 to 2001 he was an Adjunct Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium for Texas Wesleyan University. Starting in 1999 Gary began private lesson teaching at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton and is currently a Private Enrichment Teacher for Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD. He was co-founder and principal tuba for the Perennial Brass Ensemble 1998-2009 and has been the principal tuba for the Metropolitan Winds since 2011.  Gary plays bass in the classic rock band Eden and just started a brass quintet in September 2013 called… Mockingbird Brass!
